Lasting Power of Attorney (LPAs)

What is a Lasting Power of Attorney?

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document that lets you (the "Donor") appoint people (known as "Attorneys") to make decisions on your behalf. It could be used if you become unable to make your own decisions.

There are 2 types of Lasting Power of Attorney:
i) Health and Welfare
ii) Property and Financial Affairs

You can choose to make one type or both.

LPA Champions in Thurrock

Who will make decisions when you can't?
Ever considered a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)?

TCIL is involved in a project as part of Thurrock Coalition, which has created a network of LPA Champions in Thurrock, with the support of the Office of the Public Guardian and Thurrock Adults Safeguarding Board.

The LPA Champions are here to:

  • Make sure that you get all the right information
  • Help you to understand the process, as well as any costs involved in registering your LPA. Certain exemptions are available, depending upon your circumstances
  • Help you to complete an LPA application, free of charge
  • Signpost you to the Office of the Public Guardian where necessary (for example, in complex cases).
  • If you would like to speak to one of the TCIL team about LPAs or to make an appointment, please call 01375 389 864.
  • Information leaflets are available here
  • Further details are available from the Office of the Public Guardian
